How to set Up Your Computer…

Start a Hangout with the Hangouts Chrome extension or app

 You can use the Hangouts Chrome extension or app to send messages, make video and phone calls, and share photos directly from your computer’s desktop.

Start a Hangout conversation

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Open the extension or app:
    • Extension: At the top right, click the Hangouts extension Hangouts extension.
    • App: On your Bookmarks bar, click Apps Apps. Or, in the address bar, go to chrome://apps. Click the Hangouts app Hangouts.
  3. At the top left, click New conversation.
  4. Type in a name or email address. When you find the person you want, click their name.
  5. Type your message, then press the return key on your keyboard.

Other types of Hangout

Group chat
    • Hangouts extension
    • AppsHangouts
Video call

First, make sure that your computer meets the system requirements and give Hangouts access to your camera and mic.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Open the extension or app:
    • Extension: At the top right, click the Hangouts extension Hangouts extension.
    • App: On your Bookmarks bar, click Apps Apps. Or, in the address bar, go to chrome://apps. Click the Hangouts app Hangouts.
  3. At the top left, click New conversation.
  4. Type a name or email address. When you find the person you want, click their name.
  5. In the Hangout window that opens, click Video call Video call.

When you’re done with your video call, to leave, point to the bottom of the window and click End call End call.

Video call with multiple people

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Open the extension or app:
    • Extension: At the top right, click the Hangouts extension Hangouts extension.
    • App: On your Bookmarks bar, click Apps Apps. Or, in the address bar, go to chrome://apps. Click the Hangouts app Hangouts.
  3. At the top left, click New conversation.
  4. For each person in your group, type their name, phone number, or email address.When you find the person you want, check the box in front of their name.
  5. Click Video call.
